The cheapest type of garage door opener is a chain drive opener. The door is connected to the opener by a heavy metal chain. The catch is this kind of opener tends to be very noisy. Belt driven openers are a little more common but much quieter. If you are installing an opener near a bedroom, living room or other common living space, you might want to go with a belt drive. A screw drive opener connects the opener to the door via a threaded steel rod that connects to the opener via screws. This option is also quiet and fairly low maintenance.
